Why is Park City in need of MORE school?

Education standards continue to change.

OUR CURRENT FACILITY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO MEET STUDENT NEEDS IN LINE WITH STATE AND FEDERAL EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS.
The last time Park City approved a building project was over 30 years ago. Think about how much has changed in farming, ranching, mining, construction and other industries in that time. Plain and simple there are educational requirements that exist today that did not 30 years ago.

Limited space is directly affecting our students.

ALL elementary students could be housed inside our current school building and playground space could be reclaimed by relocating Jr High and High School to a new facility.
We currently have 3 modular buildings, which house 6 classrooms. These buildings are very expensive to heat and maintain, and students must walk outside to access these buildings. These modular buildings also drastically reduce the available playground space for our elementary students and parking space for teachers.

The current Ag-Ed building does not have adequate classroom space and the ventilation and dust collection systems are outdated. Woodworking classes create a very dusty and unpleasant environment and welders give off excessive smoke and fumes. Due to inadequate ventilation and dust collection, classes have to limit the number of students at welding and woodworking stations. This can still require the large shop doors to be opened to vent the building resulting in added heating costs. The overall age and condition of the Ag-Ed building is a concern and the cost of repairs and continued maintenance would be extremely costly to the district.

Currently, due to limited space in the lunch room, our lunch program begins at 10:40 am. The young students who eat that early get hungry before the end of the school day. Hungry students do not learn well. Increased space will allow lunch to begin after 11:00 am and improve student learning and attention. This benefits all students and teachers.
Class B sports are now a certainty.

Home games will soon have to be played in area gyms like Lockwood or Laurel at a cost to Park City.
The Montana High School Association has determined schools with 101 or more students in High School will be transitioned to Class B beginning in the school year 2023-2024 (only 18 months from now). Park City will be moving from Class C to Class B. This will directly impact our ability to host sporting events as our current gym will not accommodate Class B competitions The proposed facility will allow us to play our home games in Park City and provide opportunities to host tournaments, which can increase revenue for our student programs and area businesses. The current football field complex will continue be utilized by Park City Jr. High/High School football teams and will remain in the 8-man ranks for the foreseeable future.

Keeping our students and teachers in Park City.

SCHOOL PRIDE IS A POWERFUL THING!
Our school budget is directly impacted by the number of students within our walls. Currently we have approximately 40 students in our district that choose to attend other schools. It is highly likely that many of these students would return to our school district with an up-to-date facility that has desirable learning spaces and programs. As our student enrollment increases, the budget increases which can ultimately have a positive impact on teacher wages. Just as students are drawn to a new learning facility so are teachers. Having a new facility will be an essential tool in recruiting and retaining staff.
